You’re probably familiar with the story of Lazarus being raised from the dead f you’ve grown up in church or have any basic knowledge on the person of Jesus Christ. A man who had been dead for four days is miraculously brought back to life by the commanding word of Jesus, leaving people in wonder and awe. This is truly a remarkable miracle and story! But here’s the question (as it pertains to our current teaching series): how does this story point to Jesus being the king for God’s people? This story is quite clear that Jesus is a man of God who can do amazing things, but does it actually tell us that he is the king of God’s people?
Our main teaching emphasis this week will be showing our students in John 11 that the answer to the above questions are YES! Understanding that Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life (John 11:25) will help us to see that Jesus is the only answer to our problem of sin, and that only he can usher souls into the kingdom of God with His resurrection power. If overcoming sin and breathing spiritual life into lost souls is the manner in which people get saved, and if Jesus Christ is the only person that can do these things for us, then He truly is the great author and perfector of our faith (Hebrews 12:2) – the merciful King who ushers sinners into the Kingdom of God.
Please be in prayer that our students will understand their need for Jesus this week. It is my personal conviction as the student pastor at our church that we have many teenagers who walk in and out of our doors here on a weekly basis who do not know Christ or understand their need for Him in salvation. The chief thing we need in our student ministry is for these students to know Jesus in loving relationship and to understand their complete need for Him in everything. Please join me in praying for that this week.
